Options for your wall
There are plenty of options when it comes to insulated or non-insulated roof and façade sheeting. These days, you can choose from a wide range of colours, finishes and sizes. Many suppliers carry these products. Below, we'll tell you a little more about the most common profiles for restyling and renovation.

The PO 250 / HLB plank profile
Plank profiles are beautiful wall profiles and are made by a variety of suppliers. The installation method and the choice of materials are crucial due to tensions in the material and the underlying surface. We offer the 0.88mm thickness variant, which is required for the best results. The colour range for this thickness is rather limited. Plank profiles have a cover width of 250-300mm and heights ranging from 25-50mm. The panel is installed using hidden fasteners, which means there won't be many screws in sight. Alternatively, it can be installed with visible fasteners to create a wider seam. As a result of its narrow width, installing these profiles is rather labour intensive. Nonetheless, this profile is an excellent choice when it comes to appearance. https://werkcon.nl/producten/gevelprofielen/plankprofielen-1 https://www.sabprofiel.nl/producten/gevelplaten-gevelprofielen/plankprofielen.html
Properties PO-250: sleek, level and aesthetically pleasing profile, industrial look, lovely, sleek lines, no screws.

Coatings and finishes and warranty
There are plenty of options when it comes to coatings and colours for pre-coated steel. Examples include metallics, uni colours, mother-of-pearl effects, wood-look effects and various other finishes. Most suppliers buy their products from big companies like Tata Steel and Arcelor Mittal. Depending on the profile type, a wide range of options is available. We've listed a few links to manufacturers below. Feel free to ask about the possibilities. The most commonly used products in construction and renovation are PVDF, SP, HDS, HPS, PRISMA HAIREXCEL and SPECTRUM.
You can take out a direct Confidex Warranty from the manufacturer in case of colorcoat Prisma and HPS coatings. Depending on your situation, the warranty term may be as long as 40 years. https://www.tatasteelconstruction.com/nl_NL/services-en-downloads/Confidex
COATINGS properties
PVDF
The properties of PVDF coatings are primarily determined by the amount of Polyvinylidene Difluoride they contain. PVDF coatings contain at least 70-80% Polyvinylidene Difluoride. PVDF coatings come with a default coating thickness of 25mu. PVDF coatings are elastic and feature excellent mechanical strength. As such, they are guaranteed to retain their lovely appearance in the long run. These coatings are also resistant to solvents, chemicals and UV radiation. These coatings are often used for façade cladding in situations where colour retention is crucial.
The Colorcoat PVDF, for example, comes in a default coat thickness of 25μm, while the other side features a back coat of about 10-15μm in a light colour. Warranties are limited and only apply in case of exterior façade installation. PVDF is available in uni colours and metallics by default.
- Colorcoat PVDF Tata Steel
- Granite PVDF Arcelor
- Greencoat PVDF Hiarc SSAB
- Folastal PVDF Salzgitter
PVDF is a common coating in roof and façade systems which has improved constantly over the years. Van Heemskerk is the foremost expert in coatings and can professionally repair damage to PVDF coatings.
SP Silicon Polyester
SP, also known as silicon polyester, is a smooth, glossy, polyester-resin-based coating with a thickness of 25 µm. This coating is suitable for roof and façade cladding in mild outdoor situations. PE 25 / Polyester consists of a MagiZinc substrate with a smooth, polyester-based coating. It is only suitable for façades in mild outdoor situations. The other side usually features a light back coat with a thickness of about 10μm.
SP is a coating system that was especially common in the early years of pre-coated steel use, with warranty terms of about 5-10 years. By now, many building envelopes that feature these systems have aged significantly, which means the warranties have usually long expired. By now, this coating system is competing for its spot in the market with high-grade PU coatings / PVC coatings.

PU - POLYURETHANE COATINGS
Polyurethane, also known as PU, is a common coating in the roof and façade sector nowadays. It has reached this position thanks to, among other things, the excellent properties of polyurethane, including its scratch resistance (the coating is hard), excellent colour retention, lovely gloss, impact resistance (flexible) and very long warranty terms of up to 40 years. PU is often applied to coil-coated steel with a coat thickness of 50μm.
Polyurethane or PU finishes were developed for the industrial sector in the 60s. The excellent compressive and tensile strength and impermeability of the material were especially important factors for the heavy industry sector. Since the turn of the millennium, the application of this product has shifted to the aesthetic market. Various suppliers of PU coatings include:
- Kingspan Spectrum
- Tata Steel Prisma
- Hairexcel Arcelor
- HDX Arcelor
- Pladur ThyssenKrupp
Every day, Van Heemskerk repairs damage to PU coatings. As such, we have the expertise required to professionally repair coatings of this type.
HP(S) COATINGS
HPS, also known as plastisol, has been a common coating since its inception. This is thanks to, among other things, the excellent properties of PVC, including its excellent scratch resistance (the coating is hard, so there is a lower risk of damage during installation), excellent colour retention, lovely gloss, great flexibility and very long warranty terms of up to 40 years. This coating is often used in maritime environments. The surface has a slightly roughened finish, with a leather-grain pattern or the well-known “s” by Corus (scintella pattern). HPS is often applied to coil-coated steel with a coat thickness of 200μm (or 0.2 mm).

Warranties vary from supplier to supplier. Of course, there are plenty of terms and lots of small print, and a lot depends on the situation, location and details. The warranties range from 0-40 years. From experience, we know that even the more affordable SP and PVDF types generally have a pretty long lifespan. PU coatings perform especially well. In our opinion, plastisols are susceptible to damage due to UV radiation. However, they are very robust and corrosion resistant.
- SP coatings, warranties up to 5 years.
- PVDF 5 years
- Prisma 15-40 years
- HPS Ultra 15-40 years
